KORE Power, Inc., the nation’s leading U.S.-based developer of battery cell technology for the energy storage and clean energy industry, announces that Northern Reliability, Inc. (NRI) has selected KORE’s battery systems for a project at Vermont Electric Power Company’s (VELCO) headquarters in Rutland, Vermont. The Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage Project will include 1.2 MWh of battery capacity to store power from a 500-kW solar installation. VELCO can then draw this energy instead of grid power during times of high-priced, peak system demand to reduce electric costs and increase electric grid stability.

NRI will construct the project along with fellow Vermont renewable energy leader Catamount Solar of Randolph. Having designed and deployed more than 1,000 energy storage systems worldwide, NRI is one of the most experienced engineering, procurement and construction teams in the renewable energy and energy storage industry. The battery systems provided by KORE will ensure clean, efficient and reliable energy.

“NRI has served the United States government and military, the scientific community, the utility sector and private institutions with solar and energy storage solutions,” said Lindsay Gorrill, CEO of KORE Power. “Now, the fact that this global leader has chosen our technology for this project in its own back yard—where reputations can matter most—is a testament to NRI’s faith in our American-manufactured technology. We look forward to helping VELCO benefit from renewable power and energy storage and are thankful for our partnership with NRI. We see many opportunities to continue working together to deliver a high-quality solution that guarantees reliability and stability.”

“Delivering the highest quality product to our valued utility customers is NRI’s first order of business and that begins with choosing the right component vendors. With nearly 50 years of experience in energy storage, NRI knows the importance of choosing the best possible products to be included in their solutions. NRI has selected KORE Power for the VELCO project not only because of the quality of their platform, but the team behind it. We’re looking forward not only to working with the KORE team on this initiative in Vermont, but on larger projects across North America,” said Jay Bellows, president and CEO of Northern Reliability, Inc.

VELCO is actively pursuing a wide range of initiatives to better leverage substations, radio sites and other assets across the state to stabilize rates, increase use of clean power, expand broadband connectivity and enhance grid reliability. Work on the Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage project is well underway and slated for completion by the end of 2020
